Project Live Buy Give & Jewish World Watch Solar Cookers for Darfur

Location Pacific Palisades, CA

Issue Area Climate Justice/Environment | Philanthropy

Shelby wanted to do something to help ease the hardships of women and families who had fled the fighting and genocide in Darfur and were living in refugee camps. Through the sale of personally handmade and donated jewelry, Shelby raised funds that provided 1,050 families in the refugee camps with solar-powered stoves, eliminating the need for women to leave the safety of the camps to search for firewood.

I feel it is a privilege in my life to help bring safety and sanctity to families in need, and the fact that I am able to do so both excites me and soothes my soul.
