2018 Recipient

Lena Goldstein

Arnold, MD | 18

2018 Award Recipient

What started for Lena Goldstein as a year-long international medical service trip with her family evolved into an independent project that partners with existing organizations in developing countries to offer cost-effective cervical cancer screenings. Lena’s protocol uses new technology in combination with cervical cancer screening techniques in order to ensure quality control in a “see and treat” approach. Currently, Lena’s program has partnerships in Peru, Cambodia and China. Over 2,000 women have been screened for high-risk HPV, resulting in the treatment of 110 patients for cervical dysplasia (pre-cancer) and five patients for cervical carcinoma. In 2017, Lena presented her research at the International Society for the 2017 Study of Women’s Sexual Health and is an author on abstracts presented at the 2018 American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology. Her research has appeared or is forthcoming in Journal of Sexual Medicine, Journal of Women’s Health and Journal of Lower Genital Tract Disease.
