2008 Award Recipient

As a teen, Fred Scarf lost one of his dearest friends to cancer, before she could even attend her prom. Following Shiri’s death, Fred created the Shiri Foundation to raise funds for research into the causes of osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer. Fred also undertook to develop programs that support teens living with cancer and keep them from missing out on typical teen experiences. Fred’s signature effort was to create proms for teens who, like Shiri, might otherwise not make it to their own proms. He has expanded the program to a national nonprofit now known as No Worries Now.

No Worries Now

No Worries Now, formerly the Shiri Foundation, supports youth living with cancer, funding research and helping to keep them from missing out on typical teen experiences.
