David learned as a teen of the challenges faced by the Abayudaya tribe of Uganda who were forced to hide their Jewish identity and worship in silence during the reign of Idi Amin. David, through his involvement with United Synagogue Youth (USY) worked to encourage and help revive the community's youth movement and create a strong Jewish youth culture in Sub-Saharan Africa led by the next generation of Ugandan Jewish leaders.
