"I wanted to bring that sense of belonging to Greenville, not only for myself, but also for all the other kids in Greenville who were personally struggling with the lack of a true Jewish youth community. My love for Judaism and passion for community gave me the initiative and determination to bring BBYO to Greenville to unite our teens, and consequently our community."
Gesher BBYO
Gesher BBYO is a new chapter of the international Jewish youth movement BBYO, a chapter which has strengthened the small Jewish community in a predominantly Christian South Carolina town. Ruthie Perlman founded Gesher, and through her vision and leadership has helped teens develop pride in their Jewish identity and built a bridge—or "gesher" in Hebrew—bringing together different parts of the town's Jewish community.
